What makes Columbia unique?

At a location approximately 0.5 miles west of the current Boone County Courthouse on Walnut St., Columbia was first settled in 1819 as Smithton. The village moved east, across Flat Branch Creek; in 1821. It is because this location proved to be too remote from necessary water supplies. On April 7, 1821, it was renamed Columbia and became the seat of Boone County.
